TOTALLY HOMEMADE GARDENERS WORLD, AUGUST 7TH 2009

Ah, my friends, it's been a while. The fickle ways of the world. The need to earn an actual crust. The lure of the shops.

Now firstly I would like to exhort anyone I haven't already to get to the Chilli Festival at West Dean. Here's me going on about it, I am going tomorrow am. Sarah the head gardener is SOOOO amazing and gave me all these chillis after our photo session to take home and cook.

Even if you can't make it, check out their coming events (for example the up and coming tomato show), or just plan to go on a quiet afternoon to admire the incredible walled gardens, gorgeous exhibition of stone carving, or just have a nice cream tea. In fact don't even bother going in the garden, just have the scones.

Anyway in the meantime, I wish you a good weekend, I wish you no blight (eek)
and I save the best till last, waiting to reveal to you that even if you cannot make it to ANY of these wonderful real life shows....

Emsworth Online Village Show 2009 is coming.

xx

Can't wait for Emsworth...
Mind you, I've been eating all the raspberries, which have been the best thing I've grown this year. Raspberry pavlova for pudding - mmmm

The West Dean chilli festival is always great fun and lovely surroundings. The food is good too I recommend the thai food stand, hot, hot, hot!

I'm glad your doing the Emsworth show again - the energy seems to have gone out of blogworld at the moment.

Mark, you've been to visit them have you? You really should, it is the coooollest kitchen garden. Maybe you can make it for the tomato fest in early Sept. The names of the chillis are beautiful; The really long thin one is called Whippets Tail! And the little red one Little WRinkled Old Man.

HM stop eating those raspberries, at least until you've taken a photo!

Energy in blogworld or not, I am going to put a bit of effort in, and then let's see where we get. I don't think I'll be going to try any of the food tho - quick stop at M&S on the way more likely - still feeling a bit swiney!

As for you VP and Karen yes I've been pondering ways to make it less work for me and more for you (ha ha ) but I think I've worked out how to do it using post labels.... watch this space.

ps i just realised Mark's description of himself he sounds like the apple in Snow White. So if anyone sees him in real life, don't take a bite out of the red side.

Emsworth show - hurrah!

Sorry to hear you got so wet - I found two plants in my garden today which had perished in all the rain :(
Mind you, I'd prefer more torrential downpours to the suffocating humid heat we're having here now - it's had me looking longingly at photos of snow again.

ha ha!

no i havent been, but should be in early Oct if not before.

you#'re so right about the chilli names and you've given me a great idea, ok great might be a bit strong, but it's an idea...for next year's veg patch to be full only with interestingly named varieties. would be a lucky dip of sorts and everyone has some varities they stick with without thinking much, so quite a nice way of leaving them behind and trying new ones.

not sure if this is a genuinely good idea or more on a par with my ABBA themed menu of a year or two back...

Emma, I can't believe you didn't get in touch!!!! We went yesterday - the sheer volume of numbers given the weather made it pretty difficult to get into this year - we usually have a blissful time enjoying eating hot hot hot food and bumbling around in the walled garden. This year being crushed in amongst the chillis with small children trying to eat them made it slightly hazardous!!!

Never mind - i shall certainly be attending the tomato fest in september (i think?).... see you there x

Do they still do these homemade garden shows? Do you still blog here or do you have you started a new site?
