Such a good rose, I had one for about 20 years on a north wall in virtual shade. Only thing that did for it was an over zealous neighbour's application of weed killer his side the fence :(
If only you could smell a post. Mind you, I suppose there are many blog posts one wouldn't want to sniff.
ours apparued a couple of days ago, and joy is pretty unconfined about it here, I can tell you.

Looks lovely, I dont have any climbing roses but having seen a pergola in a friend's garden covered in them this week I am beginning to think I might get some.
Patient gardener! i have just been over at Patientgardener marvelling at the second part of your geranium series, just thinking "god I'd love to know so much about plants," and then there you are saying you'd love to get some climbing roses, which makes me feel better that you don't know absolutely everything :-)
Zoe, neighbours are just annoying, unless they hate gardening and mostly just stay inside the house. No not really, actually I like most of my neighbours. Even the one who burned down everyone's fences having a bonfire that she lit with, er, petrol
Ps i have to say that i've been thinking about expanding the Baklava collection, and the one I hear recommended the most is Gertrude Jekyll. Any others I ought to go mad for?
Gertrude Jekyll is a fab bought slightly gaunt (in my garden rose). She is a very clear pink, and the feagrance is unsurpassed. Other David Austin Roses that do well for me, are William Shakespeare 2000, a fabulous huge bloomed deep red/crimson with a massive fragrance,that I have growing up an obelisk. William Morris has made a 6ft x 6ft shrub, and although not as fragrant has beautiful apricot/copper fading to a deep cream bloom. Falstaff and Othello are both great if you want a deep red, and v fragrant too. Othello is the darker. Geoff Hamilton is a good pink too, not unlike Gertrude Jekyll, but with a much more cupped rose shape.
